How the webcam photo booth works
After you allow camera access, the page shows your camera's live picture at the best quality it offers, up to Full HD. When you take a photo, the current frame is copied into an image in your browser and added to the gallery below, where you can download it as a JPEG.
Mirror flips the picture like a mirror, which most people find more natural when taking a selfie. Photos are saved the way you see them, so untick Mirror first if you want writing or a logo behind you to read the right way round.
Tips for a better photo
- Face a window or lamp. Light in front of you gives a clearer, less grainy picture than light from behind.
- Raise the camera to eye level. Put a laptop on a few books rather than looking down into it.
- Use the timer so you can sit back and not be caught reaching for the button.
- Wipe the lens. A fingerprint on a phone or laptop camera makes everything look hazy.

Check for a privacy shutter over the camera or a camera-off key on your keyboard, and close other apps using the camera. The webcam test can help find the problem.
